Dear Prospective Parents and Students,
My name is Gilat Schwartz, and I’ve had the privilege of teaching for 38 years. Since Dr. Manuel C. Barreiro Elementary opened in 2008, I’ve proudly called it my home because it is truly one of the best schools I’ve ever worked in.
Our teachers are caring, encouraging, and genuinely committed to helping every child succeed. They bring learning to life with hands-on, creative activities that make students excited to come to school each day.
We also offer a wide variety of clubs, such as Bobcat Club, Photography, Kindness, Garden, News Crew, Patrols, Art, and Chorus, so every child can explore their unique interests. Our school community comes together for wonderful annual events, including Grandparents’ Day, Book Fairs, Spooky Grandparents’ Story Day, the Holiday Chorus Show, Art Festival, End-of-Year Play, Dads in Education Day, Career Day, and many more.
I am extremely proud of our students, teachers, staff, and families. Together, we’ve created a welcoming, supportive environment where children can learn, grow, and truly shine.

As both a teacher and parent, I can truly say there’s nothing like MCBE. My high schooler attended from kindergarten through fifth grade, and now my younger child is here as a fifth grader. The level of care, dedication, and professionalism from every teacher is unmatched. MCBE provides a nurturing environment where students feel valued and supported, while also being challenged academically. The foundation my older child received here helped prepare him not only for middle and high school but for success beyond the classroom.

As a parent, I can’t say enough wonderful things about our school. My children entered towards the end of their elementary school careers (3rd and 5th grade) however, from their very first day, my children were welcomed into a caring, supportive environment where teachers truly know and value each student. The staff go above and beyond to make learning engaging, meaningful, and fun. It’s clear they want every child to succeed, not only academically but also as a kind, confident person.

As both a teacher and a parent at Dr. Manuel C. Barreiro, I couldn’t be happier with the decision to have all three of my children attend our school. The foundation they received here has shaped them into dedicated, confident, and kind students. My oldest is now 21 and studying at New World, my 16-year-old is a junior in Ferguson’s Biomedical Magnet Program, and my youngest, a fifth grader, will be my last child to complete this amazing journey. Dr. Manuel C. Barreiro Elementary played a truly transformative role in my daughters’ education. From the moment they joined the school’s Chorus program, their confidence, creativity, and passion for the arts began to flourish. The teachers and staff not only nurtured their musical abilities but also inspired a deep love for performance that became an important part of their identity.
That early foundation in Chorus opened the door to even greater opportunities. It helped them discover their love of theater, ultimately earning them acceptance into a Magnet Theater program where they have continued to thrive.
